Ellen Kahn (ELKA / TwinArt)
Working under the name ELKA / TwinArt, I adopt a futurist, AI-inflected persona derived from my given name, Ellen Kahn. This solo body of work centers on luminous moons and the rhythms of the lunar cycle, exploring systems of counting, sequencing, and celestial notation while connecting past, present, and future.
The dot is my primary lexicon—at once singular and infinite. From polka dots and planetary forms to the punctuation that structures meaning, repetition becomes pattern, and pattern becomes a field of perception. This personal vocabulary mixed with wit and humor extends across media and technology.
My mentor, Nam June Paik, stated, “The moon is the oldest TV,” a poetic assertion that frames the moon as humanity’s original screen—timeless, communal, and captivating. I am inspired by the serial structures of Jennifer Bartlett’s Rhapsody, the optical dynamism of Bridget Riley, and the conceptual clarity of Yoko Ono.
For me painting, is a conceptual act—an exploration of alternate realities and a way to articulate a new visual language for subsequent generations.
